Anne Frank Elementary Installation

For this installation, we wanted to make sure we represented the soul of the school in the best way possible.

Anne Frank Elementary is a very special school. It is the largest elementary school in Dallas, serving students from 30 different countries who speak more than 20 languages. The name of the school, "Anne Frank," is also very important as it represents an amazing child and talented writer. (I read her diary when I was 14 years old, and it had a profound impact on me.) All of this served as such a powerful inspiration for me.

Thinking about all these amazing things about Anne Frank Elementary, we came up with the idea to draw inspiration for the mural from both children's drawings and writings. Of course, we were also motivated by the powerful writing of Anne Frank.

“Friendship”

What could these children write and draw about that represents the spirit of the school? Thirty countries together in one place, and the importance of community. We thought there was no better way to represent that than...

So we ask the children:

What does friendship means to you?

Where are your friends from?

What are fun things you do with them?

The children create amazing work

We picked some of the phrases and drawings from the children's and created different scenes to represent them.

All about helping each other, growing together, being by your side, talking and sharing, and of course playing.

Then we put these scene on hands, open hands that represented so many things that tight back to the values of Anne Frank Elementary, like been generous, sharing, openness, offering of help and an open community.
